A detector tells the hub what happened; the hub sounds the siren and sends the alarm. Imagine your system is armed and someone opens the back door at 2 a.m., outside an entry-delay period:
- The door detector responds. Ajax DoorProtect Jeweller detects the opening.
- The jeweler carries the event. The detector sends it to the hub over encrypted two-way radio.
- The hub raises the alarm. It sounds the installed siren and sends an alert to your phone through Ajax Cloud.
- The monitoring center receives the signal. This happens through your monitoring connection, separately from the phone alert. Monitoring is active after enrollment, configuration, and a confirmed test signal.

Does Ajax need internet, and what happens in an outage?
Ajax alarm detectors use Jeweller, not your home Wi-Fi. Hub 2 Plus can keep reporting over activated cellular data when broadband goes down.
During a power outage, its backup battery provides up to 15 hours on SIM-only communication. That battery powers the hub, not your router or cameras. After a storm takes out power and Wi-Fi, the hub keeps reporting over cellular on battery.
